Could Candida be wrecking your digestion (and just about everything else?!)

After my second babe and I developed thrush, and checking off nearly every point on the following symptom list, it was time I took looking into this “candida” thing more seriously.

  • Exhaustion

  • Cravings for sweets

  • White coating on tongue

  • Brain fog

  • Hormone imbalance

  • Joint pain

  • Loss of sex drive

  • Chronic sinus and allergy issues

  • Digestive problems (gas and bloating)

  • Chronic UTI's

I took a questionnaire + gave myself an at home test that confirmed what I had been suspecting… candida overgrowth! I then confirmed with lab results and got to work clearing this awful beast!

Here’s where I started focusing:

  • gut health

  • understanding what fed yeast

  • cleared the house of toxins that were aggravating symptoms

  • became educated on do’s + don’ts when it came to food

Why gut health?

Every cell, in every organ, in every system of your body relies on nutrients you provide them through the food you eat. So what if something is blocking that absorption? Gut health has everything to do with our bodies absorbing nutrients.

What feeds the yeast?

Certain foods help keep our gut balanced and healthy and on the other hand certain foods can stimulate chaos and overgrowth. Also important to be mindful of certain lifestyle + environmental influences. So, what are some things that may contribute to overgrowth?

  • chronic emotional + physical stress

  • dietary sensitivities to allergens like gluten or dairy

  • antibiotics

  • diets high is processed foods

  • alcohol abuse

  • birth control

  • environmental toxins (especially in household cleaning supplies or beauty products)

This doesn’t necessarily mean that these cause(d) your overgrowth, but it is something to be mindful of.

Clearing the house of “toxins” that aggravate symptoms

A “toxin” is any substance that causes harm to the body and “toxic load” is the accumulation of those toxins that burden the bodies systems and organs. Toxins can be inhaled in the air we breathe, ingested through the foods we eat, or absorbed when something is applied to the skin. Excessive exposure can leave the body tired, bloated, and weak.

Essential oil diffusers replaced candles and plug ins. Oil infused cleaning and health care products started lining our shelves, and the ripple effect carried into nearly everything we let in our midst.

Things became… simpler.

The do’s + don’ts when it comes to food

Add in more of these:

  • grass fed meats

  • pasture raised or cage free eggs

  • wild caught salmon

  • organic vegetables + berries

  • raw nuts + seeds

  • healthy fats (avocados, coconut oil)

  • spices + herbs

Crowd out more of these:

  • wheat

  • refined sugars

  • caffeine

  • artificial sweeteners

  • canola + soybean oil

  • dairy

  • peanut butter

  • alcohol

  • fast food

  • soy products

  • soda

2 ways I’ve found long term results:

1) Full body cleanse 2x year

2) Remaining mindful of ways to love on my body

doTERRA’s Cleanse and Restore Program is hands down my favorite system to tackle Candida. There are no ridiculous restrictions and you are supporting your body through 3 phases with whole foods and natures medication the entire time.

Digestive enzymes + Detoxification support blends activate phase one. A GI cleansing formula resets your microbiome during phase two, and a cellular support blend + probiotic restore balance during phase 3.

5 ways to love on your body to keep symptoms in check:

1) Drink water! Staying hydrated keeps our lymphs flowing and helps to support our bodies’ natural detoxification process.

2) Add in gentle movement like yoga. Extensive high intense exercise routines can be strenuous on an overgrowth.

3) Adopt relaxing self-care routines like gratitude journaling, meditation and epsom salt baths to reduce stress.

4) Add in some liver loving foods like ginger and beets.

5) Utilize the power of essential oils. Peppermint, Fennel, Ginger and DigestZen are a digestive tracts best friend. Lavender to sleep + citrus oils like Wild Orange and Bergamot to keep anxiety low.

Alright babe! I'm sending all my love to your success!
